Michael Gilvarry is the Head of Research and Development (R&D) at Johnson & Johnson MedTech Neurovascular and General Manager of the Galway site. In this role, he spearheads the development and execution of the global R&D strategy for Johnson & Johnson MedTech Neurovascular, while ensuring the continued success of operations in Galway, Ireland.
With a distinguished career in R&D spanning over 25 years, Michael has held progressively senior positions in the MedTech field. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation during his time at the helm of the J&J MedTech R&D hub in Galway since the acquisition of Neuravi in 2017. Prior to his current role, Michael served as VP of R&D and Technical Operations for Neuravi since its inception in 2010, following successful tenures at Abbott Vascular and MedNova.
Michael is a named inventor on over 60 granted US patents a co-author on 30 peer-reviewed research publications. Michael earned his Degree and Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Galway and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship in 2022 from Galway Mayo Institute of Technology for his contribution to stroke research.
